Universities, colleges and high schools took part in the twelve relays' on the mneet program, and Referee Far- rell, of Michigan, ran the events off in record otime. Purdue won the two-mile race in eight minutes 1 2-5 seconds, wvith Northwestern the only contender, and far in the rear. Chicago took the one-mile event, only to be disqualified by :Farrell for not carrying the baton. And in disqualifying the Maroons, the official administered to the Chicago athletes a stinging rebuke for what was termed a deliberate attempt to de- ceive the judges, and take the race by unfair means. With Chicago disquali- fied the race went to .Missouri, which finished second.
