Herbert Thatcher Rea THURSDAY, APRIL 8, 1915. Night Editor-Verne E. Burnett THE FORUM. Wholesome growth marked the be- ginning of the Union Forum. It was started late in the year, and in a sea- son notable for the absence f any great amount of enthusiasm for activ- ities. Good substantial elements of de- mocracy, free speech and sincerity put the new institution on its feet at once, however, and it weathered its initial voyage nicely. Summer baseball, fra- ternities, the student council, the marking system and the prohibition' movement all came up tor discussion. Thought was stimulated. In some cas- es, immediate action was precipitated. The Forum should be continued next year. It should be maintained as the discussion center of the campus, where any man- may say what he pleases. Frankness must be encouraged, and the unconentional man with ideas must be induced to tell his opinions. Perhaps-it will be well to introduc more- of the ingredient of sociability, ,but it must not go too far. Those who are to have the management of the Un- ion in hand for next year, when they are selected, might well devote con- siderable thought to the future of one of the most healthy appendages that the organization possesses. Soon mother will be telling small brother that you're the handiest man around the house, and asking you. to prove it. A Maxim silencer might be used on that man in the seat behind who waits for the lecture every morn to wind his watch. The ill wind that is noted for not blowing nobody no good did its duty by sweeping the prof's notes off the ros- trum. Pity the opera man who had every- thing fixed up, only to discover that the train leaves at 11:30. Hard to leave 10 cents at the post- office to hurry that check, and have 'em bring up a bill. No alarm next week, but a shrill re- peater voice instead. Perhaps she'll let that room bill hang over till May. Maybe April showers will bunch their hits. - You'll never write that thesis at home. Ask the man who owns one-a dog. Did cha go to the Maj? Yes, weren't they? ,h v Mrs. Martha H. French and Miss Edith Blackman, of the department of domestic science of Ypsilanti State Normal College, will speak on the practical application of domestic sci- ence and art in the work of the Eight Weeks' Clubs to members of the club, and other university women who are interested at the regular meeting at 5:00 o'clock this afternoon in Newber- ry hall. * * * Others besides the Michigan Union are getting ready to begin campaigns for funds. Are you sorry now that you asked the prof to postpone that mid-semes- ter? All will not glitter Friday night, if the light goes out again. Tennis Lovers, Attention!
