There are a couple dozen professors on the campus who make a business of holding up news, Sometime in the past, perhaps five years ago, they were offended. The notice that they wanted to see in print was not published, or if it was run, it is just possible that it was garbled. For evermore these men are embittered; they lose no oppor-, tunity of discrediting the newspaper, by remarks in class, in public and pre- sumably with most enjoyment in the presence of a reporter trying to worm out more news. The Daily is adverse to talking about itself. If the issue were one which concerned itself alone, this space would be filled with some more perti- nent discussion. But the withholding of news affects so many persons. It is an offense against the public. It does not harm the newspaper so much as it does those who depend on the newspaper for information and in- struction. A man holding a public office is ignoring a part of his duty when he shuns publicity, even if his personal reasons for doing so may be good. The person who bottles up his information until that moment when he thinks that it will be proper to let it out, is almost as objectionable. But goodness, who cares to sit in the front row and see roomy go through the motions as a member of the chorus? The Detroit con who wakes up owl car patrons at their corner might be employed for closing up 2:00 o'clocks. immmmw 1ntverstt flfusic lb otse MRS.M. M.
