Some weeks ago, "Campus News Notes," which is a university bulletin, came out with the statement that stu- dent drinking seemed to be faling off markedly. ,The article wasdwritten in good faith by a student. It was only a short time later that the campus was flooded with marked cop- ies of "The Inside American," a De- troit publication which, on its face, appeared to have for its fuiction the defense of the beer interests and the championship of Mr. Stephens for the regency of the university. The marked editorial called to task "Campus News Notes" for itsunbiased comment that less liquor was going down students' throats. The incident itself was trivial, but its effect, by the negativeness, is significant. The attempted agitation to stir up the temperance issue on the campus simply faded away in in- difference. Nobody was ready to take up the cause of beer and help the edi- tor of "The Inside American" to stem the apparent approach 'of prohibition. It all seems to confirm still further Just what the questioned statement de- clared,> namely that student drinking is on the wane in Ann Arbor. There's the landlady who asked Miss Smith's instructor where that young lady's seat was, as Miss Smith could not be present at the lecture. College culture once culminated in tipsy students pausing at midnight in front of an art store window to view some Rudeselli landscapes. Somebody rises to suggest that the old power house on the campus be turned ifnto a conservatory or aquari- um. The Apol- lo trio present what is one of the best posing and acrobatic acts seen here this year.
