CAROLI NE HAZARD TREATS WO11AN AN]) COLLEGE PROBLEM "There are always three great dan- gers to the student of a women's col- lege, the danger of the crowd, the dan- ger of barren learning unconnected with life and the danger of physical breakdown," is the framework on which rests an article by Dr. Caroline Hazard, former president of Welles- ley college, on "Where the College Fails the Girl," published in the March number of the Ladies' Home Journal. The first danger Dr. Hasard shows to be the crushing of the personality, which is called the goal and end of all training. She charges the college with the function of turning out real men and women, not combinations of thy two. And each person is to be brought to his or her fullest development, which is more than making a type of him. The third danger Dr. Hazard points out, is an outgrowth of natural youth- ful zeal in the pursuit of learning. She sees disaster ahead for those who neg- lect their health, in that the mind and spirit will rebel against working in a tired body.
