The first film exhibited by the Union was one of the Paramount series, featu-ring Mary Pickford in the Fa- moos Players film, "Behind the Scenes." The movies have been in-' augurated in response to a consider- able demand. on the part of the stn- ,dont body for high class moving pic- tures, and those in authority- plan to continue the Paramount pictures as long as the demand for this class of production warrants showing them. A. charge of 10 cents is made for the shows, which is cheaper than they can be seen in the best moving picture houses of the country. i In answer to Coach Huff's call for 4haseball candidates at the University of Illinois, many men are signing up for the long grind of practice till the outdoor season' cotjinmences. Several J of the last year's Varsity team are among the number of names appear-: ing on the lists,.and prospects look good for another Conference chain- pionship team. The squad will not start work, however, till the comple- tion of the hstallation of the baths in the new armory. This armory, Coach .I-uff believes; is one of the best places in the country for indoor base- bh4l practice, and he expects with this help to get the -jump .'on the other squads. Sororities at the Ufniversity of Kan- sas will not be allowed to cut classes during rushIng' next fall, according to the new rules recently passed by the omen's -Pie-Heileiih society. This mneans that sororities will not be al- lowed to do any sort of rushing dur- ing class hours. In previous years, the rushing during the first week of col;ege has seriously interferred with the attendance. As before, rushing will continue all day on enrollment and .registration days, and during the .week-end activities, but while classes are being held, the sororities are re- stricted from rushing except during 11/If _ Ferruccio Busoni, the talented Italian- pianist, will appear in Bill auditorium on March 2, as the next number on the pre-Festival series of concerts. This will be his first Ann Arbor ap- pearance, since on his previous Amer- ican tours, the demand for his serv- ice; was so great that it was im- possible to secure him for Ann Arbor. It was only by-making an engagement an unusually long time in advance that he was secured this year. On account of the European war, and the fact that he was ill for sev- eral weeks, he was unable to come. to America in the fall as originally planned, and did not reach here until the latter part of January. Conse- quently, he was obliged to cancel a large portion of his American tour, but fortunately the Ann 'Arbor man- agement was able to engage him for a performance. For years Busoni was obliged to fight the Berlin music critics, some of whom were antagonistic to him, both as a pianist and as a composer, but in spite of this attitude, his re- citals were always crowded by the public. At last the Berlin press was obliged to give the man his due recognition, and at the present time there is no place where he is more enthusiastically received by all than in Berlin. Before sailing for America he gave several concerts in the large German cities, and a final concert in Berlin where tremendous pressure was brought to bear upon him to cancel his trip to America. Since reaching this country, he has appeared only in -the large Eastern -cities, where he has been triumphantly received. Many patrons will be interested in the program which he will play in Ann Arbor, hence it is printed at this advance date, in order that those who so desire may familiarize themselves more fully with the numbers.
