Hughitt goaled. Splawn's other field -goal also came in this period, after line attacks had failed to gain. Inthe second half Mount Union op- ened up still more, using the forward pass on every down except the fourth one. These tactics slowed up the game, although they made it spectac- ular for a time, but it soon grew mon- otonous. Darkness caused the referee to shorten the last period six minutes, but out of the 38 minutes left of play- ing time, a timer with stopwatch on the side lines caught the actual play- ing time at just 14 1-2 minutes. Had the forward passing tactics of the vis- itors not delayed things to such an ex- tent, Michigan might have run up a larger score. In the third period Mount Union be- gan to take the offensive at least half the, time, and McNamara and Zieger did not have as much success direct- ing the attack as Hughitt had had. Michigan had to fight hard all the quarter before Catlett got away for 15 on a fake kick. Zieger added as much through the line, and Maulbetsch plunged the needed seven yards on the first trial, with Splawn goaling. In the four minute final period Mount Union was on the offensive practically the entire time. Penalties ,and the unending forward pass at- tempts of Mount Union finally gave the visitors their score, the last plunge having started just before the lines- man blew his whistle.
