If half of the current runors may be believed, a large number of fraternity and sorority houses have been robbed during the present college year. No definite information is available. The usual practice is for the organization robbed to maintain absolute silence, keeping information even from the po- lice. Partly as a result of this, the thieves have gone unapprehended, and every month brings forth another batch of reports of more burglaries. Hushing up robberies is fostering future offenses. It is menacing pub- lic safety. There is some lobjection- that the local police department is not handling the situation properly. If true, this is serious. Already the se- ries of petty thieveries has become a nuisance. Possibly concerted action on the part of the fraternities concern- ed would be effective in preventing the spread of the evil. Senior women will hold the first of their series of three class luncheons at noon Saturday at the Michigan Union. A brief program of toasts and dancing will follow. Tickets at 60 cents are being sold by the following members of the social committee: Alice Wiard, Clara Roe, Honora Fogerty, Helen Bur- lingame and Jean Miller. * * * The only tryout for parts in the Jun- ior Play will take place from 3:00 o'clock to .6:00 o'clock today in Sarah Caswell Angell hall. The committee will assign the parts next week. The first rehearsal will be held under the direction of Prof. John R. Brumm on Saturday, February 27. Tryouts 'for the play music must be in the hands of Alice Lloyd, '16, by Tuesday. * . * "An attitude of sincerity, reality, and perspective in the things of the spirit are the great necessaries, if this phase of our lives is to be developed," was the keynote of Dr. Charles Gilkey's last talk to university women at Newberry hall yesterday afternoon. Dr. Gilkey discussed several questions that have been put to him in consultation during his stay in Ann Arbor, and urged a practical following-up of the Mobiliza- tion activity of last fall. Representative university women, who have had practical experience in social service work among younger girls, will have charge of the organiza- tion meeting of the Eight Week club, to be held at 7:00 o'clock tomorrow' night in Newberry hall. The plans, as formulated by- the national board of the Y. W. C. A., call for a series of seven weekly meetings. In taking up this work, the local as- sociation is falling in line -with a larget movement among the college associa- tions throughout the country Univer- sity women who are interested have een asked to register at Newberry hall today or tomorrow.
