"If you want 'peace prepare for
peace, not for-war,"_said Dr. John M1ez
yesterday in the second of his anti-war
lectures at Newberry hall on the "Psy-
chology of War and Peace."
In the beginning 'of, his address, he
unfolded the underlying causes which
finally led to the outbreak of hostilities

last week. The men had been electec
some time ago, but could not ass'ame
their positions until the appointmeL~as
were passed upon by the board. Ac-
cording to an action of the board, in
the. future the managing editor will be'
held entirely responsible for the paper}
as he will be in complete charge. The
Technic board was reappointed for

greatest of world conflicts. He then
showed how public ideals and the pub-
lic mind had changed from a glorifica-
tion of war to a hatred of it.
"The illusion of great illusions," said
Dr. Mez, "to use the terms of Norman
Angell's great book,' is that a nation
must protect itself and prevent war by
huge armaments. This is fundamen-
tally wrong. Did the European na-
tions, get peace through their prepar-
edness for conflict? This militaristic
spirit did not stir up fear in their riv-
als but kept them alert and keen with
a, full realization of the danger which
would result if they did not keep pace
with the armies and fortifications and
fleets of each other."
Dr. Mez recently completed the
translation into German of Norman
Angell's latest book, "Arms and In-
dustry." He has been Mr. Angells
representative for several years. The
peace lecture at 4:00 o'clock this af-
ternoon in Newberry hail will be "The
Economics of Modern International-
