KANSAS STUDENTS CLOSE UNION No Interest Shown; Only 43 Out of 1617 Attend "Pep" Session Death has overtaken the Univer-: sity of Kansas' Student Union. --Congregationalists of the city honor- ed the Rev. E. C. Boynton, student pas- tor of that church, and Mrs. Boynton, with an informal reception at the church parlors last evening. -Comm itteemen who will take charge of the Saturday night membership (ance at the Union are: Chester H. At a meeting held last week by the student council, only 43 students out of 1617 men in the university, evinced enough interest in the Union to attend the "pep" gathering, and as a result it was decided by those in charge to close up the union for good. The student Union has been running' in debt since its start last March, which has been due principally to the lack of interest displayed by the students, most of whom refused to pay their subscriptions, or any part of their pledges. As a final resort, the student council held a last big rally in an effort to arouse the stu- dents to the possibilities of the union and of its crying need for the stu- dents' support, but of no avail. Only 43 students appeared at the rally, and the council decided unanimously that the small gathering of students clear- ly indicated that they were not be- hind the union.
