by Bach, a brilliant and difficuilt work,
revealed the deopth and siolid tone of
the organ. The "Prelude" from "Lo-
hengrin," ethiereal and elusive,' was
effectively reg isteredl on the softer
string anid flute combinations.
Mlost dramatic of, all wvas Dubois',
"March of the M1agi King s," the mnys-
tery of which Buas heig-htened by weird
registration and the, insistent note,
which forms an orga,-n point throug-hout
the coin position. As a geneoral faivor-
ite, however, the fantasy on the famiil-
iar, "ioly Nigt,"madethegreatest
appeal. Played on the- delicately toned
stops of the echo organ1, with t he c ilin-
es appeairing in the last, variation, it
charmiied likce magic. As an epc~litomie
of the spirit of Christmastide, the "Hal0-
lelujab Chorus" closed the progIramn.
As a special feature of the prog rame,
".Mr. samiuel P'. lockwvood, violinist,
played spohir's "Conerto No. S." This
is a brilliant number, miaking great
demands upon technique, and Mr.
Lockwood's interpretation _ succeeded
in eliciting wvarm appilau se. The arc-
companiiment wa-fs skillfully exvecied
by M1iss Franlces Hamiltoni.
Two freshmen women at the Uni-
versity of Illinois have registered in
the military department.
