There is a stranger among us-a new uninvited type of toque. Its spon- sers are freshmen who evidently think the solid gray too somber.for their spontaneity and gusto. So the stran- ger comee with a black turn-up to set off the gray dome. Perhaps some merchant is using the unsophisticated as goats for shelf goods. But the new men should be broken in well enough by this time to know the traditions governing the freshman color. Gray doesn't mean gray trimmed with black, or with any other color for that matter. These un- desirables might well be fit subjects for confiscation. That would be one way of keeping an esttablished campus custom free of parasitical offshoots. SOCCER FOOTBALL. All men who have found it impos- sible to get out for Varsity, freshman or class teams, will have an opportun- ity to try the new university game,- soccer. This game is not as rough as football, nor will so much weight or experience be desired or expected. The man who is light and quick on his feet will be made the most use of. Students who are not built for football should take this chance to put themselves in good condition. Soccer as a university sport, has be- come popular all over the country. Es- pecially is this true on the coast where it has displaced the regular game. The athletic association, under the new blanket tax, is trying to get every stu- dent into some line of athletics. It is the aim of the organization to broad- en every line of sport. Every ian who wants clean, strenuous exercise should present himself on Ferry field for soccer football. Prof. Newcombe Meets ('lasses Today. Prof. F. C. Newcombe, of the botan- ical department, was in Hillsdale yes-I terday on business. He will meet his classes as usual today. (Hocked from the news hook) "Mr. Ilanko was able to walk away from -he. hospital yesterday, being on the rapid road to recovery,". The implication in yesterday's sport stor-y, leading some to believe that the Coach is trying to break into the Col- yum, is unfounded. The next time the Scintillator strays all over the sheet, an extra charge will be made to hire Some mercenaries to wipe out our inky-fingered friend who dwells in the wether regions. Now that a game is assured on November 2, Michigan can afford to boast of the other chances that it had. "Steve" Bacon, the captain of Chelsea's crack high school eleven, wrote to Director Bartelme asking for a game on that date. Feeling the great- est confidence in his own team, Bacon was sure that Chelsea could put up a close scrappy contest against Yost's mighty, blue warriors. Dr. Rus to Deliver Extension Lecture. Dr. Henri Hus, of the botanical de- partment, left for Roger, Michigan, last night, where he will deliver an extension lecture, returning Monday. Prof. Trueblood Delivers Lecture.
