JUNIOR IS AWARDED FIRST PRIZE IN FRENCH CONTEST John Powell, '14, was awarded first prize in the French composition con- test and Frank J. Dupras was given second place. The prizes are two sil- ver medals, first place being larger than second, which were given by the Detroit Committee of the Alliance Francaise. Whether this contest willkbecon- tinued in the future is not known at the present time but it is hoped by the heads of the French department that either it or something similar will be offered to those who wish to try"for honors in French composition. There were only three compositions submit- ted this year but the quality of the compositions is of the best, and it is thought that a continuation of the con- test will do much to raise the standard of composition in the French depart- ment.
