The action of the Comedy club Mon- dlay in offering a prize of $100 for the best play submitted by a student marks another step in the noteworthy pro- gross which that organization has made during during the present year The announcement of the competitionj will be greeted with approbation ev- eryw here. It provides opportunity for the expression of ability and ambition which, previously found no outlet at' Michigan, and wil serve to stimulate interest in uplifting the contemporary drama, But why stop here? There is more for the Comedy club t4' do. Th pub- lic productions of the club have been all too few, instead of one show a year, why not one a month? To provide enough actors let the club enlarge it membership to embrace two or three active casts. There is plenty of good histrionic material on the campus which has not been utilized. If neces- sary, enlist the support of the high school and the townspeople in a jun ior or extension organization and let the club give a monthly production in one of the university halls at a moder- ate admission fee,, We can conceive of no better way in which to bring about the elevation of the drama, Most of us would be betteri judges of a good or bd drama after we had tried to write one or ha attempted to Play a part. As specta tors such a program on the part of the Comedy club would provide us with opportunities to see more of the better. class drama at less expense than has hitherto been our privilege Critics say tha the next decade will mark the renaissance of the drama. #Phis probably is true, et's fro our share at Michigan in a greater 0omedy club. FUNNY QR UNJUST? Don't you,1honestly think We've hiad enough of the banter which apcompa-, nies a certain member of the Varsity nine every time he takes his place at bat? There is such a thing as carrying the spirit of fun t a st4ge Which is harmful to the game and exeedingly detrimental to the team and it mem- bers. If to be funny we mst also be unjust, let's quit bing humorists right this minute, YOUR SHOULDER TO THE WHEEL. We cannot too strongly urge your at- tendance at the boat club Mass meet- ing tonight at the Union. This i one of those projects which htas come with the bang that promises big for the future.' Two of its chief purposes,- the formation of crews and the protec- tion oif life,-are alone worthy of all the support we can give. Remeber Frank Chance Pay, Detroit, Saturday, May 10 FS.
