fUILD EXPERDIENTAL STATION.
Four Thousind1 )ollas is Given to
Four thousand dollars has been ap-
propriated for the construction of a
research experimental station near the
Fuller street bridge, north of the uni-
versity hospitals, which will be devot-
ed to carrying on tests in sewage dis-
posal and water purification. Work
has been started under the direction
of Superintendent of Buildings and
Grounds, J. H. Marks., and it is ex-
pected that the plant will be ready for
simple experiments in a few weeks.
The plans for the sanitary testing
station were designed by the civil en-
gineering department, and most of the
experiments at the plant will be con-
ducted under the supervision of Prof.
W. C. Hoad, head of the sanitary en-
gneerig department.
NEW YORK EDITOR WILL
CONDUCT RHETORIC CLASSES
Mr. Edwin E. Slosson, editor of the
New York Independent, will conduct
all of Prof. F. N. Scott's classes next
week. Mr. Slosson is prominent in
magazine circles. He lately returned
from an European trip which formed
*the basis for a series of travel arti-
cles, published in one of the leading
periodicals.
EXTENSION LECTURES TO BE
GIVEN ITHROUGHOUT STATE,
University extension lectures will
be given tonight and 'tomorrow night
in various cities of the state. Prof.
T. E. Rankin will speak on "The Bible
and Other Books" at Wyandotte; Prof.
C. S. Berrywill talk on "The Educa-
tion of Brilliant and Backward Stu-
dents," at St. Louis; -Prof. R. M. Wen-
ley will speak at Pontiac, and Mr. S. F.
Gingerich will lecture ,on "Words-
worth, tde Poet of Nature," at Scott-
ileand Newage.

STUDENT CALLED HOME BY
.SERIOUS ILLNESS OF SISTER
J. H. Wilkins, Jr., was called to his
home in Denver yesterday by the se-
rious illness of his sister, Miss Helen
Wilkins. It is not known whether he
will return to the university this year.
Wilkins had one of the principal
parts in the German play this year.
His part, that of "Krafft," will be fill-
ed by C. B. Goshorn, '15.
TO OVERHAUL WIRELESS
FOR NORTH DAKOTA TEST
In preparation for the wireless sta-
tion's 24-hour test wi41 North Dakota,
which will be held in about ten days,
the plant is being overhauled and
important repairs are being made. A
new aerial switch is being installed
and the rotary gap of the motary is
being readjusted. Although the test
has been postponed several times, it
is expected that nothing will interfere
this time with the oarrying out of the
plans.

Stalls in saloons will be a thing of
the past in a few days. At a session
of the license committee of the city
common council held in the council
chamber of the city hall last night
proprietors of the three saloons main-
taining stalls advised the committee
that they would conform with its ulti-
matum in regard to the abolishing of
such inclosures.
To CTve Masonic Third Degree Tonight
The Craftsmen, cooperating with
fraternity lodge number 262, will con-
fer the third degree of Masonic ritual-
istic work on four candidates, two of
whom are students; in the Masonic
temple this evening. A supper will be
served at 6:00 o'clock, and all faculty
and student Masons are invited to be
present.
Missouri Valley Club Plans Smoker,
The Missouri valley club has sched-
uled a smoker for Wednesday, April
30, at the Union. Harry K. Curtis,
'14L, will officiate and will call upon
Prof. Thomas E. Rankin aid a repre-
sentative from each of the Missouri
valley states to respond. Admission
will be 25 cents.
Tickets Sell Fast For Banquet
M9st of the tickets, of the possible
100, for the "International" banquet
to be given by the Corda-Fratres Cos-
mopolitan club on May 1, have been
sold. The demand has been unusual,
and the few remaining pasteboards
may be procured from members of the
conmittee.
Paladlum Sophomores Dance Tonight
Regardless of the opposition to call-
ing the annual dance given by the
sophomores in the paladium frater-
nities, the Soph Prom, the name of the
Paladium Soph Prom will be used this
year. The dance will be held tonight
at Granger's academy and about 70
couples are expected.
