Aside from the elimination of a campus Banquo ghost, in the form of band finances in the fall, a solution will mean the keeping of our spring concerts from the cemetery. Immediate steps will save this tradition; continued shilly- shallying will kill it. In the latter event, where shall we place the re- sponsibility? NOMINATE OFFICERS FOR YEAR. For purposes of local color, we sug- gest the substitution of "university band" for "dog" in Champ Clark's ca- nine battle song; certainly the former is being most successfully kicked about by committees who seem to prefer flights through the clouds in lieu of habitation on the earth where they belong. Way back before Christmas, a com- mittee was appointed by the athletic association, and one meeting at which nothing was accomplished, has been the result. Then the student council appointed a committee which has since busied itself with the collection of data from other universities, thus need- lessly duplicating the work of a sim- ilar committee of two years ago, which tabulated the results for the council files. All the while the year has been speeding on, and, before we realize it, the university will have closed for another term, and the band will re- main the same enigma of old., It is our belief that the band ques- tion can be settled without these months and months of dabbling. It is an admitted premise that the band is entitled to and should have a perma- nent financial basis, and we are cer- tain that the athletic association will effect that, if its committee is remind- ed, with some insistence, that today is better than tomorrow when there is work to be done. Let the council committee meet with the athletic committee and ,solve the question, once and for all from the standpoint of our own circumstances, not from those of other universities.
