BISHOP WILLIAMS TALKS , ON "MAN AND CRAFTSMAN" "Man and Craftsman" was the sub- ject of Bishop Williams' talk at the Union Saturday afternoon. He made a plea in a general way for a larger and broader education for those who went out in the more specialized and technical lines of work. He held that such an education was valuable to its possessor not only because of the ben- efit that it brought him but that it made him much more efficient for spe- cial service. The address was well attended by Union members. M. TALAMON WILL LECTURE ON "La MAISON DE BALZAC" TODAY "La Maison de Balzac" will be the subject of a talk by M. Rene Talamon on the Cercle Francaise course, this afternoon at 5:00 o'clock at Tappan hall. M. Talamon will describe the recently discovered house where Bal- zac lived from 1830 to 1840, and which has since been turned into a Balzac museum, and he will discuss the au- thor's life during this time. Senior Law Passes Illinois Exam. G. D. Kelly, '13L, received notice yes- terday that he had passed the Illinois bar exam, which he took last month. Kelly lives in IVonticello, Ill., and he expects to practice in. the vicinity of that town after he is graduated next June. PANHELLENIC TO VOTE UPON PLEDGING QUESTION TONIGHT Freshmen Women May Not Be Asked to Join Sororities Until See- ond Semester.- Panhellenic will meet at the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority house at 4:15 o'clock this afternoon to vote upon the question of pledging freshmen women at the beginning of the secpnd semes- ter rather than at entrance as is the present custom. Delgates from the nine sororities have been instructed to vote' for the proposed change, providing a satisfac- tory plan of campaigning can be devis- ed. To date, the only definite article to work ujon is the rule that no fresh- man whose work is not of a passing grade will be pledged. This is the principle that has brought about the proposed change as the sororities wish to have their scholastic standing as high as possible and in this manner prove themselves more beneficial to their members. C. A. LIHTNER, '83, TO GIVE SERIES OF LECTURES HERE. dlarence A. Lightner, of Detroit, will give a series of lectures before the law students beginning next Friday. "Medical Jurisprudence" will be the topic of Mr. Lightner's lectures which will be given in room G of the law building,'every Friday afternoon at 4:30 until further notice. Mr. Lightner was graduated from the university in 1883. He is now a prominent lawyer in Detroit and is a member of the firm of Konner, Light- ner, Oxtoby and Oxtoby. WOMEN WILL HEAR PROGRAM ON SOCIAL SERVICE TODAY. University women will be offered a special program dealing wih social service in Ann Arbor at the regular meeting of the Y. W. C. A. this after- noon at 5:00 o'clock in Newberry hall. Mrs. A. E. Waite, president of the federation of charities and Mrs. T. A. Borden, probation officer, both of this city, will talk to the women on the work now in progress and the oppor- tunity of the university woman to aid the cause. It is probable that Miss A. E. Burroughs, the visiting nurse from New York city, will also speak. Senior Engineer to Speak to A. L E. E. "Building Up the Valley Load" will be the topic of an address by W. B. Kopfer, '13E, before the monthly meet- ing of the student branch of the Amer- ican Institute of Electrical Engineers, tomorrow night, at 8:00 p. m., in room 311, new engineering building.
