The new rest room in Newberry hall will be opened next week accordig to the present plans of the Women's league. The room will be in the apart- ment now used as the reading room, the latter will be transferred to anoth- er part of the building. The new rest room is being fitted out with lounging chairs, divans, window seats, and screens for the use of all women of the campus as a general resting place. Recent "at home" parties netted ap- proximately $200 which make this new department a possiblity. MACHINES NEARLY COMPLETE FOR FORESTRY LABORATORY Two of the machines for testing the bending and shearing strength of dif- ferent timbers, which will be used in the new forestry technology labora- tory, are rapidly nearing completion in the engineering shops. A third ma- chine for making compression and tension tests is being constructed by the Riehle Machine Manufacturing Co., of Philadelphia. This machine, which will be shipped in a few weeks, will be capable of exdrting a force of 50,000 pounds. "BILL" EDMUNDS TO COACH AT WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY "Bill" Edmunds, former varsity tackle, has been signed to coach the football, baseball, basketball and track teams at Washington University, St. Louis. Last fall, Edmunds was foot- ball coach at West Virginia. In his new capacity, Edmunds will be a suc- cessor to Francis Cayou, a former Car- lisle star. Prof. White Returns Today. Prof. Alfred H. White, of the chem- ical engineering department, who was called to Chicago last week by the death of his mother, will return to- day. ENGINEERS MAKE PLANS FOR ANNUAL TRIP EAST. Of the 30 men who attended the meeting yesterday afternoon, called by Prof. S. J. Zowski, to talk over the spring trip of the mechanical engineer- ing students, 13 signified their inten- tion of going. Other men expressed the possibility of going to make it look as if the num- ber this year would compare favorably with the party one year ago when about 30 students took the trip. Since the tour next year will be westward, this is the last opportunity for juniors to enjoy an eastern route. Offer New Course to Foresters. A new course in forestry research has just been opened to the advanced students In the department. The course will be under the supervision of the faculty, each man guiding the work along his own special line. Al- ready 18 students have enrolled in the course. Webster Society Meets Tonight. A meeting of the Webster society will be held tonight at 7:45 o'clock in its room in the law building. A musi- cal program has been arranged for the evening.
