At a meeting of the residential halls committee of the Women's League Sat- urday the advisability of adopting plans for the erection of a number of small halls instead of a few large ones were discussed. The one large hall, originally planned for housing 100 women is to be retained, but the remaining ones will be of a smaller type, accommodating about thirty wo- men. This change in plans was due in part to the efforts of several Detroit women who are trying to interest business men of their city to support this cause. These women argued that small halls not only can be erected at a much lower cost, but they can be erected sooner. It is hoped that financial aid will be received from other alumni centers if Detroit can be urged to take the initiative. SENIOR LAWS WILL DANCE AT UNION NEXT FRIDAY. AN UNNECESSARY HAZARD From an apparently reliable source has just come the report that at the present time, there are circulating among the students generally, at least fifteen carriers of small pox germs. These individuals though not them- selves suffering from the disease, may nevertheless be the means of institut- ing a wholesale infection, the effects of which, in a crowded community such as this, are likely to be serious. So far the university authorities have not deemed it necessary to take compulsory steps respecting the sit- uation, but have been content to pro- vide for free vaccination, and leave the matter otherwise to individual dis- cretion. Ordinary prudence would urge that every one take advantage of this opportunity to obtain immunity from the disease in question. In light of the announcement mentioned, the risk of infection is not a paper scare, but a real and imminent danger.. It remains for each one to weigh the likelihood of his exposure and the con- sequence arising therefrom with the slight temporary inconvenience of vac- cination, thenmake his choice. As a general proposition, the habit of dis- counting the future, for the sake of present gratification, results disas- trously. ENGINEERING SOCIETY WILL SECURE JOBS FOR GRADUATES In order more efficiently to deal with the problem of filling positions offered to engineering students, plans are being made to turn this work over to the Engineering society. The demand for engineers in the past has always been greater than the supply, and sometim- es good offers remained unfilled, be- cause there was no adequate system of keeping account of these positions for any length of time.
