There is one woman among the entries and the competitors are divided among the dif- ferent classes as follows: sophomores, six; juniors, 13; seniors, four. From the preliminary contests, two seniors, two juniors, and one sopho- more will be selected for the final con- test, the winner of which will receive the Chicago Alumni Medal, and a Kauffman testamonial of $100.00. The second place will be awarded a Kauff- man testimonial of $50.00. There will be five preliminary con- tests, owing to the large number of junior entries. These will all be held in room B of the law building, and for the first time will be open to the pub- lic without charge. The first junior preliminary will be held Monday evening, February 24. Phillips, '14L, "The Problem of our Municipalities;" and J. W. Harding, '14L, "Homer Lea." The second preliminary will be held the following evening the following being the dompetitors :-Helen Magee, '14, "Woman's Work in the World;" H. C. Tallmadge, '14; "Americans in America;" P. V. Blanshard, '14, "Chris- tianity and the Social Crisis;" C. C. Lockwood, '14, "Progressivism in Gov- ernment;" W. C. Mullendore, '14, "The Degredation of our National Honor;" and B. J. Jonkman, '14L, "The Home of the "Peace Tribunal." The final junior contest will be held Saturday, March 1, from which the two representatives for the final uni- versity contest will qualify. The sophomore contest from which one man will qualify for the university finals, will be held Wednesday, Febru- ary 26. Scott reported to trainer Farrell yesterday, and will begin training at once for the indoor season. He will be eligible for the all-fresh this spring, and will probably be able to enter in- tercollegiate competition next year. The Dixie star has received a B. S. from the academic department of the southern institution, and this may de- bar him from the varsity team. He enters the engineering department as a junior. LITERARY SOCIETIES WILL PICK TWO FRESHMEN TEAMS The ,Adelphi and Alpha Nu literary societies will hold tryouts for the an- nual freshmen debating teams at their meetings tonight and tomorrow night. Freshmen in either of the societies who try for the teams will deliver a prepared speech of about ten minutes in length, and unless more than six men tryout selections for the team will probably be made at the same meeting.
