sirous of having our body of student
representatives consist of men who
are representative of the students'; or
if you are fully enough imbued with
the American spirit to want your, vote'
to count for as much as that of any-
one, else, and no snore;-be man
enough to put a stop to any scheme
of which you are cognizant which is
in violation of the spirit of our system
of elections, even if it does happen to
arise in an organization of which you
are a member; and take enough of an
interest to get out and vote so; that
it cannot again happen that the vote
cast for what should be one of the
most important offices on the campus
amounts to a total of twenty or thirty,
out of a possible several hundreds.

it necessary to stick to the old system,
the thling to do is to hold the evils in

The weak points in the plan of mak-

We contend that even though open
to this abuse, the new system is a
great improvement over the old one.
We will be enthusiastic in our support,
however, of any plan which promises
to do away with the above mentioned
op~portunity for abuse. But until such
ai plan is devised, it is up to those of
its who are desirous of having a clean,
wholesomie atmosphere in campus pol-
itics, to be ready to fight to prevent
any abuse of the p~resent nominating
system.
There are two ways of electing the
right mpen as our representatives: the
first is to create an atmosphere on the
Q Inpitis which is absolutely antago-
nistic to all shady politics; and the
second is to get out anti vote.

Kitty Gordoni Tonight.

tions that has ever been seen on the
American stage comes to the Whitney
theater tonight, when Kitty Gordon
will appear in "The Enchantress,"
widely proclaimed as Victor Herbert's
masterpiece. Mr. Gaites has spared
nothing to make it the most brilliant
p~roduction of his career in the choice
of the exceptional cast, and the fam-
ous beauty singing chorus.
"Litle Boy Blne."
henry WV. Savage will offer at the
Whitney theater on Thursday, Janua-
ry 16, the joyous operatta, "Little Boy
Blue." ",Little Boy Blue" was origi-
nally produced in Vienna., Paris and
Berlin, and it was while on a trip
abroad that it was secured by the
American manager for use on this
side of the Atlantic. It will be given
here by the same cast as played it in
New York and with the same produc-
tion. The company is headed by Otis
Harlair.
OBS5ERTVATORY PUBLICATION
TO -)BE READ)Y SIItIT'LY.
The new publication of the univer-
sity observatory, which has been in
the hands of the printer for several
months, is nearly ready for circula-
tion. This book, the first of its kind
to be published by the local observa-
tory, gives a detailed description and
working of that part of the university
devoted to astronomy, and shows that
it ranks among the three important
observatories in the United States.
Containing about 75 pages, the work
is well illustrated by exterior and in-
terior views of the buildings and in-
struments, as well as by several dia-
grams.
The following articles, all written
by members of the astronomical de-
partment, are contained in it: "A Gen-
eral Account~ of the Detroit Observa-
tory," Win. J. H-ussey; "The Single
Prism Spectrograph of. the Detroit
Observatory," Ralph H. Curtiss; and
several others.
YACLTYA LAD)IES ENTERTAIN
The first "at home" of the faculty
ladies, to university women will be
given tomorrow afternoon at the hom-
es of Mrs. F. N. Scott, Mrs. G. W. Pat-
terson, and Mrs. R. Bishop. Other fac-
ulty ladies wiill assist, and the women
are urged to call at all three homes.
Junior advisors are expected to bring
their freshmen, and in this way help
them in getting acquainted with their
profess ors and professors wives.

OLD GRADIS To OLD BANQUET
N NEW YORK LAST OF MONTH
The annual banquet of the Univer-
sity of Michigan club of New York City
will be hel at the hotel Astor on ,the
evening of January 24. President
Harry B. Hutchins will be the guest
of honor and other prominent alumni
from various parts of the country will
attend. Fully 300 Michigan men are
expected to be present at the gath-
ering. The club wishes it understood
that alumni are welcome whether they
reside in the vicinity of New York or
not. Graduates, who are planning to
make a trip east in the near future,
are urged to so arrange their plans
that they can be present at the club's
banquet.
