General Sentiment is in Favor of Inter.
Departmental Series.
Thirty-five hockey enthusiasts met
at Waterman gymnasium Thursday
and discussed the prospects for the
coming season.tDr. May gave a talk
on "Hockey in the East," showing the
condition of the winter sport at Har-
vard, Yale, Cornell and other eastern
universities. P. G. Bartelme, director
of outdoor athleticsabrought before
the would-be puck-chasers the inad-
visability of making hockey at Mich-
igan a major sport at the start. He
also stated that two rinks at Ferry
field were in readiness for the weath-
er man. Both rinks are to be lighted
with strong arc lights.
A lei gthy discussion took place as
to whether each class would be allow-
ed to enter a team, or whether only
one squad from each of the different
departments would compete. The
general sentiment of the men present
seemed to be in favor of the inter-de-
partmental method as was used last
year.

of the University Expeditions into

the Western United States," is the
general subject on which Dr. A. G.
Ruthven, the curator of the museum,
will speak to the Sigma Xi Monday
evening at 8:00 o'clock in the econom-
ics lecture room.
Contrary to the custom prevailingl
at other meetings of this society, Dr.
Ruthven's lecture will be open to the
public. An important business meet-
ing of the chapter and council will be
held immediately after the lecture.
Deutscher Verein Initiates Tomorrow.
An initiation will be substituted for
the regular program at the meeting
of the men's section of the Deutscher
Verein tomorrow night at 8:00 o'clock.
The 12 men who were elected at the
last meeting will be initiated. The
initiation will be preceded by a short
business meeting at 7:30.
FRESH LITS ANNOUNCE SERIES
OF THREE DINNERS FOR YEAR
The fresh lit class has made ar-
rangements for a series of three din-
ners to be given at the Michigan Jn-
ion. Arrangements are also being
made for several dances and smokers
throughout the year.
The first of the dinners will be held
on Monday, December 16, at 5:30
o'clock. George McMahon will act as
toastmaster and responses will be
made by Prof. W. A. Frayer, E. G.
Kemp, Pres. Howard Pelham and oth-
ers. Music has also been engaged
for the evening. The other dinners
will be given on February 11, and
April 28. Tickets can be secured from
the social committee at $1.50 for the
three dinners or 65 cents singly.
THREE ECONOMIC PROFESSORS
ATTEND CHICAGO MEETING.
Professors F. M. Taylor and E. D.
Jones, -of the economics department,
left Friday afternoon for Chicago, and
while there they will attend a meeting
of the western economics association.
Prof. David Friday, of the same de-
partment, will also be present at the
meeting. During the week he has
been in the northern part of the state
on the university extension course.
