(Continued from page 1.) the dope. Eminent critics who have seen both teams play have divided as to opinions and the layman is up in the air. Cornell is twice as strong as the team that played last Saturday against Dartmouth. Sharpe, their coach, is a Yale man, and according to Yale tactics plays his whole season on- ly for the last two games, the rest be- ing of no consequence as to result. Today the Red team thould be at the height of its power, trained for this, coached for this, and with its' best stars fit and ready for battle. The same might be said of Michigan. On one point do critics agree and that is that the final score will be close, and the team that gets the "break' will win. The Cornell squad reached Detroit early Friday morning and have been kept at the country club there, having a slight workout yesterday afternoon. They will arrive in the city about noon today and will probably go direct to Ferry field. According to reports from the easterner's camp, Butler,, Eyrch, and Fritz, the men most to be feared, are in grand shape, having been kept out of the Dartmouth battle and will start today. Moakley the veteran trainer has made his course of train- ing lead up to this minute and accord- ing to him the team was never in bet- ter shape. Michigan had its final signal practice\ last night running through formations and walking scrimmage in learning Cornell plays. Farrell last night stat- ed that with one exception the entire squad was in good condition and should last without any trouble. This exception is Charlie Barton, the lanky boy who is counted on as center in case Paterson goes out. He has been suffering from an attack of stomach trouble but it is believed his condition is not such as to keep him out entirely. "Bubbles" Paterson will surely start and is said to be in better condition than is generally supposed. Craig, Huebel, and Hughitt have entirely re- covered from the Quaker battle and will be seen in their regular berths when the whistle blows. The lineup as announced Friday morning seems liable to stand and ac- cording to critics represents Michi- gan's strongest front. But there was still another shift last night in the de- fensive lineup that looks good. Pon- tius and Torbet will start at ends but on defense "Brute" will be sent back up the line while Thomson will be sent out to the extremity. Cole and Musser will play tackles but ondefense Mus- ser will play loose center while Al- mendinger is shifted to tackle and Paterson put in as guard. The center trio is intact while Huebel will direct the team. Thomson will be at full and Craig and Hughitt will start at halv- es. Clearly this is Michigan's strong- est offense and the shifting of the men on defense is a clever move for now these various men will be playing in positions where their various styles of defensive playing can be best used. A large delegation of Cornell under- graduates are due to arrive in the city this morning and hundreds of their alumni have already hit town. There is considerable betting on the game but it has all been at even money except for some varied wagers on the size of the score. A huge Cornell banquet was held in Detroit last night and was well attended, all the Cornell coaches and trainers giving short talks and while they made no definite statements they promised a hard close battle. The gates of Ferry field will be thrown open at 12:30 and the refer- ee's whistle will sound at 2:00 o'clock sharp. It is expected the bleachers will be entirely filled by that time and the standing bleachers will be thrown open as soon as the gates open.
