CIATION CONFORM TO THE WISHES OF ITS 3EMBERST WILL IT COME TO PASS. And it came to pass in those days that there was a great drouth through- out all of the land of the campus of Michigan, nor was there water to drink any place, neither by day nor by night, on the campus. And the children of Michigan suffered greatly, and mur- mured among themselves, because they were thirsty. And it came to pass that the elders of the class of 1911 were one day gathe red together, all of them; and they spake to each other, saying: "Come now, what shall we do that we may be remembered of those who shall come after us in this land; for we are about to leave?" And they thought of the thirst of the chidren of Michi- gan; and, behold, they set up a foun- tain. Even in the very midst of the land, did they set it up, and provided it with water spouts of a bright metal. And it was beauteous to look upon. And they said: "Let there be no more drouth on the campus of Michi- gan, and let the waters flow forth al- ways from this fountain, that the chil- dren of Michigan may never again go dry-throated to classes: so will they always remember us, to bless us, for this deed." f And there was the fountain, and there were its shining water-spouts, and there was water beneath the foun tam: but there was no water flowing from the spouts. And there was mur- muring once more amongst the children of Michigan, for they were still thirsty, and still went dry - throated to classes. And at last they prayed, saying: "Oh, Lord, give usa Moses, for we are sore aggrieved. Give us a Moses, that we may smite the rock and bring forth the cool waters. And we care not one whit if he wear over-alls, and bring in his right hand asmonkey-wrench, so be it he be a :Moses." LANTERN STEALING. Superintendent of Grounds Marks is on the lookout for the party or parties who have been pilfering red lanterns nearly every night from about con- struction work on the campus. Evi- dently, it is the work of some crank, who, in addition to an aptitude for making pretty fair wages out of each evening's work, entertains an inherentt love for knick-knacks. Stealing construction lanterns is about as healthy a vocation as putting dynamite on the kitchen range. For this reason the law shows trivial con- sideration for the miscreant who is so unfortunate-or fortunate-as to be apprehended. Washtenaw county court records will disclose numerous cases concerning students who have been dismissed from the university be- cause they couldn't resist the lantern "lifting." The present depredations may not be the work of students. Be that as it rhay, the risk the guilty party is tak- ing is a far greater risk than the stake at hand. With the apt remark that Taft re- minds us of an un-negotiable Bill, we are off(and we admit it) for ten inches of mirth' and merriment. -X- George Gains Dizzy Glory.
