Stories similar to this have reached Ann Arbor before other battles, but the effect was.not to make anyone afraid' or back down, and the yearlings .=nder Coach Conklin feel that the out- come of the impending clash is already known, Since Monday the first year men have been at it each afternoon until dusk and are whipping into shape a different team from the one seen In previous contests. The personel of the eleven remains practically the same alth~ough there.Ls a possibility of a few changes in the-line before Saturday afternoon. ARRANGE FOR SOCCER Secretary Danes, of the Michigan state soccer league, and Secretary Pemberton of the Detroit club, were in the city yesterday afternoon with a proposition to select two pickd teams from the Detroit clubs to play an ex- hibition match on Ferry field. It is their idea that if students are given the opportunity of seeing a game play- ed by masters of the game that their opinion of soccer will be turned In its favor and an increase of popularity will follow. Rain had "no power to dim the enthu- siasm of the visiting experts, and at 3:00 o'clock yesterda' they -were out In 'uniform on the slippery grass of Ferry field to assist:Cach Douglas in his task of instilling some knowledge of soccer football 0 in the small squad of- struggling beginners. The next practice will be held Mon- day afternoon at 3:00 o'clock. SELECT iiIEN FOR RELAY RACES. 1Iaiibaugh,,Plummer, and Murphy Win Places n Event. Murphy and James, the two fresh- men who tied for fourth birth on the first year relay team Wednesday, ran a duel contest yesterday afternoon, the former winning. Plummer who won fourth for the juniors in Wednesday's tryouts was picked for the team, when Rankin, the man who was to run against his time, forfeited. Haimbaugh was selected to tomplete the senior's four. Semi-inal Genie Put Off Indefintey. Owing to the aquatic condition of the south Ferry field green yesterday af- ternoon, the football contest between the senior lits and the soph engineers has been postponed until some future date is selected. The first game on the semi-final schedule will take place this p. m. at 4:05 between the senior laws and the soph medics. SE NI JOR LAWS ARE ENGAGED IN PRACTICE COURT WORK. Senior laws are busily engaged in practice court work. The first papers in law cases have been filed and briefs are now being prepared for the oral argument. As in previous years, the first semester in the practice court work will be given over to law cases while during the second, each group of four students will have a jury case to prepare for and argue. The office of the clerk of the practice court, which is open from one to two o'clock each afternoon, is crowded at that time each day as the busy barristers file their papers and discuss the relative merits of their cases. expect to go home to vote on Monday and Tuesday, the athletic association has announced a change in the plans for the convenience of those students. The time for the sale has not been changed but those who are going home will be given the opportunity to ar- range beforehand for the reservation tof their seats. All seniors and juniors who expect to leave the city for those two days and who will not be here on the day when they are scheduled to pick ,their 'seats, are requested to neave their names and class on a slip ,of paper at the athletic association offices either today or Sat- urday. These names will be listed and a sufficient number of seats in the rooting section along with the class wvil be reserved for them. Upon their return to the city they can call at thy; offices and claim the seats kept oat for them by presenting the slip. .It is important that these men leave their names as no seats will be held out from the sale except for those who arrange for them in this manner. The ruling applies only to juniors and sen- iors. REFERENDUMI BY STUDENTS IS THlE PRE SENT QUESTION. (Continuedf from page 1.) these methods '' Professor J. R. Brunm believes that the athletic. association would profit from sending the band because it could then ask 'more from the band, improve its character, and~ attract more people to the games in other cities as well as t1o the local games. He doubts, how- ever, that this plan would be feasible for this year. Professor W. G.
