The Michigan track team, unherald- ed and unfeared, did itself, the univer- sity and its coach proud on Saturday, at the intercollegiates. Unrealized and unappreciated by the general stu- dent body, one of Michigan's greatest track teams closed up its records by winning third place in the big eastern meet. Michigan won three out of 13 cham- pionships, against the competition of 25 universities. Four men placed in two events each. No team. ever did that before. Cornell was the only other team besides Michigan'that took three first places. Six men won 29% points. The Michigan team was a small team, but it was a dangerous team. It has been said, either fairly or unfairly, that the general student body has miserably failed to appreciate the work of the track men. Possibly this is so, and possibly it is not. But let it not be thought that the thinking portion of the -campus is so lethargic or so numb to the efforts of men like Kohler, Seward, Bond, Smith, Brown, Murphy, Ferris, Jansen, Ufer and Armstrong. Nor have the men who have trained for months on Ferry field, who did not go east, been for- gotten. Before the end has been reached, let it be understood that the 1914 track team has scored a signal suc- cess. Speed pictures on postals. Daines & Nickels.
