Under the auspices of the Students' Christian Association, Benjamin Fay Mills, the noted orator and lecturer, will .give a free lecture at the Whit- ney theatre Sunday afternoon at 4:00 o'clock. The subject of the lecture will be Jean Valjean, the hero bf Vic- tor Hugo's powerful novel, "Les Mis- erables." "The Quaker Girl." One of the coming attractions at the 'Whitney theatre will be "The' Quaker Girl," a charming musical comedy that never has been seen in Ann Arbor. Produced successively in England, America, and France, "The Quaker Girl" has been one of the most suc- cessful operattas ever presented. The music by Lionel Monckton is on a higher level than that of most musical plays, and the book is far above the average. Freemakn, Proprietor A glistening, shimmering cover of white fell upon the municipal asphalt of State street last night so that doub- le sighted and color blind students swore that winter had come and that the days of Indian summer were no more. But their swearing was false. The white blanket was not of congeal- ed rain in regular geometric figures but that source of apetizing and al- lowance reducing odors-popcorn. The underwriters were unable to def- initely determine the cause of the holo- caust but it is believed that the high pressure of the steam generated by the flames in the peanut roaster caus- ed the cylinder head of the engine to blow out with such force that popcorn, both in the making and the finished product, was scattered to the four winds. An emergency call was sent in to the operator of the snow plow and he came with all speed, but by the time that he arrived, the substance in ques- tion had been consumed by bystanders and the plowman weary plod his home ward way. There remain only the blackened embers and twisted girders of what was once a prosperous establishment and the king is without his home.
