Lang., week. x x x CHAMPLAIGN, ILL., Oct. 15.-With the preparatory games with Kentucky and Missouri safely stowed away, Illi- nois is now getting into shape for the hard conference battles that follow. All the men weathered the Missouri game in good shape. However, Fuller- ton, guard, and Shobinger, halfback, are still bothered by old injuries. Thus far Suppke has relied almost wholly on straight football, although played fromline shift formation. In the Missouri game, even after Illinois had been scored on, and when the temptation was great to slip in a trick play or two, he made them stick to a few simple plays mixed in with a for- ward pass or two. * * * * * * * * * * * .r.. SCHLEEDE, 340 S. STATE STREET Press reports predict that 1,000 M. A. C. rooters will invade Ann Arbor on Saturday. And we predict that the cheer leaders will have a busy day, not in exhorting their clansmen, but in leading them. "The one thousand strong" are not coming down purely on a pleasure trip. They will yell like mad men, they will fight like demons; fandom will run rampant. And with such competition, what will Michigan do? We suggest an or- der "double express prepaid" for cheer leaders. Time was when this was a standing order. But then we annually had sev- eral battles with our natural rivals and we had many "thousand strong" delegations to out-yell. WHAT SAY YOU? If any valuable experience is now to be derived from college politics, by those who have no fear of the dan- ger of this undegraduate Charybdis, it is the strength and moral character to be gained by frank, honest expres- sions of one's own judgment on the questions of the day. The hostile conspiracies and secret niachinations of the past have reaped their own ingathering of obnoxious- ness. They have served to arouse a storm of disapproval with any remain- ing semblance of a boss-like rule, by spoils system. Today every man at :Michigan stands on his own merits. Let him have the courage to tell his opinions and fear- lessly stand for these convictions. The Ann Arbor branch of the Asso- ciation of Collegiate Alumnae gladly welcomes any woman who has receiv- ed her degree from a college not eli- gible to membership in the association, or any woman having completed two years in a college of the approved list. The first meeting will be a reception in Barbour gymnasium, Thursday ev- ening, October 16, at 8:00 o'clock, in honor of Dr. Elsie Seelye Pratt and Mrs. Violet Jayne Schmidt. All eligi- ble members whether active or asso- ciate are invited. Membership blanks may be secured from-Mrs. C. O. Davis, 5 Cutting apartments. UNIVERSITY NOTICES.
