A XMAN AND HIS5 CRITICS.
No man-wvho is man--fears criti-
cism. The fair critic is probably the
best friend a person can have--but he
must be just, he must be intelligent
and he must be sympathetic, if it is to
accomplish the only purpose that crit-
icism, serves. Otherwise, it is useless,
inhumane and beneath the notice of
the men against whoM it is directed.
To understand is to forgive. Harsh-
ness wotnds and maims. It is not
corrective:
WILL YOU BE ONE?
In the scuffle and hurry of this none
too closely organized campus of ours,
many and many an idea is thrown' to
the winds. Many, many more are put
into execution for ai year or two, then
die an unnatural death, either because
instant and complete success has not
crowned the venture or because of the
lack~ of initiative.
Professor C. 0. Davis, with effective
and sincere aid from the senior lits,
has succeeded in putting into working
order the :senior advisory system.
Much good has been accomplished.
The possibilities for the future are
even greater.; Each year hundreds of
homesick, bewildered freshmen are in-
troduced to our intricate, and sensi-
tiv e university society. They, should
not be allowed to mope, in their rooms
to have their hearts eaten out with bit-
ter loneliness The freshman needs a
"big brother," some one to tell' him
what to do and how to do it to become
a respectable part of this society of
ours. He must be taught Michigan tra-
ditions and ways. and means of the.
campus. Michigan is learning not to
sneer at the freshman, not to throw
childish obstacles in his path, not to

plans or procteuure ror thie com~ing yearF.
All sophomore' women., whose scho-
lastic record is clear, and who wish to
act as junior advisors next year, are
urged to send a postal bearing a state-
ment to that effect to Dean Jordan 'be-
fore the end of this week.
Junior women who met with the
freshmen at luncheon at the Union last
Saturday are planning a joint senior-
sophomore entertainment, to be given
at the opening of the new college year,
probably q~ the Saturday following
Dean Jordan's reception to the sopho-
mores.
The meeting of the Women's Dramatic
association announced for, today has
been postponed until Monday,,May 18,
when plans for the vaudeville perform-
ance to be given by the women's league
will be discussed.
Miss Post, director of Barbour gym-
nasium, will not be able to receive to-
day.
Velox Paper is used by all large Am-
ateur Finishers BECAUSE IT IS THE
BEST. It costs more than any other,
but the quality is such that, the Pho-
tographer who aims to give the very
best results is waillig to pay the dif-
14 ence. For example:-
' 4 x5 Velox $2.00 per gro.
4'xl5 Azo $1.25 per gro.
}4 x 5 Cyko $1.35 per gro.
t 4 x 5 Argo $1.35 per gro.
