(Continued from page 1.) James 0. Murfin, of Detroit. Action is expected at a near-future meeting of the board. By the terms of a resolution pass- ed by the board, an attempt is to be made in the future to award the cer- tificates of athletic insignia at some public meeting of the students. Ac- cording to the tentative proposals of the board members, the football cer- tificates will be given to the winners at the big Union smoker, following the clase of the season; the track and ten- nis insignia" the Friday preceding the annual June examinations; and the baseball letters at the same event stag- ed during Alumni Week.. The majority of the board session, which lasted till nearly 10:00 o'clock, last night, was mainly taken up, how- ever, with the Conference problem, the results of which discussion are given in another column of The Daily. Every member of the board was pres- ent at the session last night, and in- eluded Professors Allen S. Whitney, George Paterson, Ralph W. Aigler, and A. B. Stevens, Judge James O. Murfin of Detroit, James E. Duffy of Bay City, Michigan, and John D. Hibbard of Chi- cago, Albert Fletcher, H. Beach Car- penter, Louis Haller and Director P. G. Bartelme. JUST RECEIVE D By Express OHIOANS GIVE YOST'S PUPILS HARD CONTEST (Continued from page 1.) on a fake kick formation. Michigan tried a forward pass and won a pen- alty when a Mount Union player in- terfered with Torbet's reception of the heave. The penalty put the ball on the five yard line, and Benton plunged across. Captain Paterson goaled after both touchdowns, and the scoring was over for the day. The entire second half was spent in a vain endeavor by each team to win an advantage. In the third quarter, the ball see-sawed back and forth, and neither team could gain much on the other, either by punting or on straight football. In the final period, Michigan forced the play into Mount Union ter- ritory, but the Ohio players were stub- born to the last, and gamely continued to battle Yost's pupils to a standstill. During the game the visitors used the forward pass almost incessantly when they had the ball. Twenty-four passes were attempted and six of them were successful. The passes were cleverly conceived, and though they lacked lucky breaks in execution, they kept the interest in the contest keyed to the highest pitch. Michigan used the pass twelve times and was success- ful in three attempts. Stars for Michigan would be difficult to pick. There was little starring by the Maize and Blue players. On several occasions the Michigan backs appeared to advantage, but there were others when they did not. On the Mount Union team, honors must go to Carson at right end, and Geltz at left half. They were in the game every minute and made their individual prowess felt. Lovell also showed tal- ent at playing fullback.. To explain the low Michi- gan score when fifties and eighties were expected, is a task that balks players as well as critics. The most charitable expla- nation is to concede that the Mount Union team was "primed for bear," while Michigan expected too easy a game. One injury marred the contest, Galt was hurt early in the first quarter when he twisted a leg. Quinn substi- U 1 Visit the Newest and Up-to-Date DRY GOODS STORE Royal Worcester AND.
