The early start is for the benefit of the half milers, who will remain over the vacation period to get in shape for the two mile relay at the Penn games, scheduled for the last week in April. "esides the seven or eight candidates for the two mile relay team, it is ex- pected that several other members of the Varsity squad will remain over. Although it now looks as if only the two-mile team would be carried, in- stead of both a two-mile and a fresh- man relay team, as was done last year, a few men may be entered in special events. The shot put, discus throw, 100-yard dash, high jump, pole vault, and hurd- les are the events held at the Penn- sylvania carnival, separate from the regular relay races. Capt. Kohler will undoubtedly take the trip to compete in the weights, and it is probable that the star dash trio, Seward, Smith, and Bond will go to run in the dash. GIVENBY CERCLE Cercle Francais has selected for its annual spring play Henri Bernstein's "L'Assaut," which had its first per- formance in the Theatre National de l'Odeon, April 17, 1912. The play will be presented April 30, in Sarah Cas- well Angell hall. "L'Assaut" is the work of one of the foremost contemporary French drama- tists, and has been an unqualified suc- cess on the French stage. The subject of thle Ilay is the att empit of one p;oll- tician to double-cro aother. In presenting a strictly modern dr- ma, the Cercle is departing somewhat frm iits tradition, which as hitherto favore~d the older classical works.. The play will be presented undr the direc- tion of Mr. Rene Talamon. The chiet parts have already been assigned, re- hearsals are under way, and a full announcement of the cast will be made shortly.
