Keystone Come COMUIDYACROBATS Michigan faculty men in the Zoolog- ical department are actively engaged in investigation which are achieving high results,, Prof. Jacob Reighard is preparing a report on the breeding habits of fishes, which should surpass, in im- portance, anything of the sort ever before attempted. Prof. Otto C. Glaser' is carrying on experiments on artifi- cial fertilization, which have already resulted in much new and valuable information. Prof. A. F. Shull is sub- ecting Rotifers or wheel-animalcules to various external stimuli, and study- ing their effects upon the- structure and reproduction of the offspring. His results have been published in about a dozen scientific journals. Prof. R. W. Iegner has undertaken to trace the history of the germ cells in certain insects and mollusks from one generation to the next, and ex- amine the constitution of the germ- plasm. Prof. A. G. Ruthven has charge of natural history surveys in Michigan and South America. He has contributed to the subject of the meth- od of evolution in reptiles, and has valuable reports of an ecological na- ture now in progress. Prof. G. R. LaRue now has a mono- graph in press, dealing with certain parasitic worms. His other investi- gations, now in progress, are for de- termining the relations between the parasite and its host. Mr. Peter Ok- kelberg has, for the last three years, been working out the events in the germ-cell cycle in the brook lamprey, with special reference to the phe- nonenon of hermaphroditisin. He is also performing experiments in arti- ficial fertilization. The laboratory assistants and grad- uate students are also engaged in in- vestigations of a varying nature un- der the direction of individual mem- bers of the staff.
