We state the rule. The man who today refuses to aid in a class memorial, will refuse--or neg- lect-to aid in a larger way later on. At the present time the senior is as able to .contribute $2.00 to a class me- morial as he will be able to contribute $10,000.00 in his more affluent days. There are a very, very few, who can justly plead. poverty. They are the exception and they can easily be taken care of. These are serious symptoms, that the senior laws are showing in .this memorial matter. Is the university getting so big, that its most cherished customs are to fall about our very ears? Are we to plead poverty in the face of an institution that is educating us at less than cost? How are we to explain? Is it the mere momentary as- cendency of selfishness? C FLANDERS There will be an important meeting of the business staff and all tryouts at Daily office this afternoon at 4:00 o'clock. CLASS MEMORIALS. The leaving of class memorials by graduating classes has become a Mich- igan tradition. Every senior class, within our memory, has left some sort of a memorial to the university. Be- fore we disregard such a tradition, let us be of a most inquiring turn of mind. The senior laws on Tuesday after- noon voted to break the tradition. The vote was carried by a three-fourths majority of those present at the class meeting-=30 in number. Obviously, 23 members of a class of 215 should not carry much weight in such an important matter as this. There is a well defined feeling in the class that the matter should be voted on at another meeting. F The Cbabb H 209 SotKhStae Stnr Gives cleauiz, wholesome boarc per 'weekl. No one would say that the money that has been appropriated for class memorials, has always been spent to the greatest possible benefit or even that it has been wisely spent. Many gross mistakes have been made, but none so serious as to warrant a dis- continuance of the custom. But whatever objections there have been on this score in the past, were fully answered and the faults correct- ed by the 1913 law class. A memorial fund was established to assist self- supporting students through the law department. Surely this is a worthy precedent! -Surely we can scrape to- gether $2.00 toward such a memorial! "ROBBING PETER." We believe, along with the presi- dent of the university, that the time for the Michigan man to aid his uni- versity is the present. We also believe that a loyal Michigan man need not wait until he is rich in worldly goods before showing his spirit., We believe in the present, because the man who is unwilling to give now, Until they called me a fraud.
