The written nomination for upper class presidents was first welcomed to the campus last year. Its superiority over the nominating orator was at once apparent. He of the raven mop, per- spiring brow and "gates-ajar" collar who rumbled and reverberated eulo- gies has gone from among us. His immediate successor was the simple "I nominate John Smith.", But this method of nominations is also open to criticism. Many a worthy man is never named for office, because he lacks an aggressive friend at the right place and the right moment. Many a modest man will not consent to run for office, and risk defeat, when he has no indication of his strength. Does not this suggestion of the Stu- dent Council solve the problem? "A secret nominating ballot shall be cast at a regular meeting of the class, every member voting one name. The six names receiving the highest number of votes shall then be posted in alpha- betical order at which time any nom- inee may withdraw. A second ballot shall immediately be taken-and the two names receiving the highest num- ber of votes shall be placed upon the official ballot." Does not this system guarantee a real battle between real class leaders? Why not try. it today? - The attendance committee will meet in the Registrar's office this afternoon from 3:00 until 4:15 o'clock to receive absence excuses from men students of the literary department. Chorus Girl Contest Tonight Manager Lane has arranged the lat- est city craze, "a chorus girl contest" to take place at the Whitney theater immediately after the regular perform- ance of "The Runaways" tonight. The members of the chorus will each show what they can do in the way of a vau- deville stunt, the audience being the judge of the winners who will receive cash prizes donated by the theater management. The large and enthusiastic audience that completely filled the high school auditorium last night gave *ample proof of the popularity of faculty con- certs. From the opening number, a Mozart quartet exquisitely played by Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Lockwood, An- thony Whitmire, and Richard Hall to the closing violin solo which Mr. Lock- wood rendered extremely well, the concert was thoroughly enjoyed. Mr. William Howland, as usual, re- ceived a hearty welcome on his first appearance. His aria the noble "Dio possente" from Faust was given with telling effect, the high notes ringing out splendidly.
