We believe that the student council has struck at the very heart of an evident danger in the recommendation to reduce the number of councilmen by half. Lack of interest on the part of coun- cilmen has caused no end of trouble to the organization in the past. Fines, disbarments or what-nots have ac- complished nothing. Centering indi- vidual responsibility is bound to raise the campus appreciation of member- ship and will increase the efficiency of the members themselves. But even this is not enough. VAN DOREN'S PHARMACY, 703 Packard St. F, THE ELECTION. US Y THE POPULAR PLACE , After all has been said and done, the final worth of the council is to de- pend upon the type of men who are sent into the council. If any perma- nent improvement is to be made the council elections must produce men who have campus respect and men who are willing to sustain that respect by diligent and conscientious work. We must devise some system that will produce these men. The present I CHOOL SUPPLIES ier Loose Leaf Note Books, Loose Leaf ny size. The Daily made the suggestion that some sort of a nominating committee be elected by the class, with powers to present twice the number of candidates possible to election for a general vote of the classes or departments. There is the evident objection that men fit for the council would be elected to the committee and so be practically barr- ed from the council election. This danger could be obviated in part by expressly stipulating that members of the nominating committee were eligible for candidacy. It could be further protected by limiting the ed to some extent. The following program will be bf- fered this evening: Ballad, Op. 23 .............. Chopin Andante from Sonata Op. 5 .. Brahms Waldesrauchen ...............
