MUSIC AND DRAMA.
Folk Songs Feature Concert
Miss Nora Hunt, contralto, interpre-
ted with intelligence and sincerity, a
program of national folk songs yester-
day afternoon at the school of music.
This recital was the first on the his-
torical series for the second semes-
ter.
Careful, distinct phrasing and clear
enunciation marked Miss Hunt's sing-
ing. In "Drink to Me Only With Thine
Eyes" and "Annie Laurie," the tone of
her voice was luminous and rich in
color throughout.
Mrs. Minnie D. Sherrill played sym-
pathetic accompaniments.
"Quo Vadis "
The attraction at the Whitney thea-
ter for the rest of this week will be
George Moore's magnificent moving
picture production of "Quo Vadis."
This film was produced at an enor-
mous expense; thousands of players
were used in the big scenes and the
principal roles were enacted by the
leading dramatic talent of Italy. The
work of these artists is worth the
price of admission, in itself, to say
nothing of the spectacular features.
Beyond the question of a doubt, "Quo
Vadis" is the most marvelous achieve-
ment up to date in photo-drama.
COUNCIL TO DISCUSS PLANS
REGARDING REORGANIZATION
The meeting of the student council
which is scheduled for tonight, will be
devoted mainly to a complete discus-
sion of the reorganization of the coun-
cil. The questions of what powers and
duties the council should possess, and
the feasibility of a student court will
occupy most of the time. New coun-
cilmen will also take the Bath of office.
The meeting will be called to order
at 7:30 o'clock, in the north wing of]
University hall.
ENGINEER-LAW TEAM IS NOW
LEADING IN HOCKEY LEAGUE
The engineer-law hockey team de-
feated the fresh engineers in the
third game of the second series Tues-
day night. Doyle for the engineer-law
team was largely responsible for the
piling up of a 7 to 2 score which plac-
ed the combined aggregation at the
head of the league. The fresh engi-
neers meet the lits tonight at 7:00
o'clock, and tomorrow night the lits
will cross sticks with the science team.
DR. A. P. FITCH TO CONDUCT
LOCAL RELIGIOUS CAMPAIGN
Dr. Albert Parker Fitch, president of
Andover Theological seminary,will be
gin a religious campaign in Ann Ar-
bor Sunday. He will speak at the Y.
M. C. A. and Union Guild services and
make several other addresses. Stu-
dents, who are considering the minis-
try as a life's work, will have an op-
portunity to meet him privately. He
plans to remain until Tuesday night.
PROF. ROTH ESTIMATES VALUE
OF LOCAL TREES AT $290,000
Prof. Filbert Roth, of the forestry
department, in making an inventory of
the trees of Ann Arbor for the city,
estimated their value at $290,000. This
is on the basis of $20 per tree. $10,000
per year is expended for their care and
a special forester is employed by the
city to take charge of setting them
out and trimming them.

Winked Out
The discovery of two large comets
within the short space of three months
by P. T. Delavan, a Michigan student,
Is pronounced by Prof. W. J. Hussey,
director of the university observatory
and who has just returned from six
months of work at the observatory of
the University of Argentina at La-
Platte, as a most commendable ac-
complishment. According to Profes-
sor Hussey, had Delavan not -found
the Westphal comet it would proba-
bly have been listed among the lost
comets 'as a few weeks after its dis-
covery It gradually faded from 'view.
Professor Hussey, in speaking of
the work which is being done by the
observatories of Argentina and the
University of Michigan in comet seek-
ing, expressed the belief that much
would be accomplished as soon as the
equipment of the southern observatory
was brought up to the standard of the
one here. Professor Hussey is director
of both institutioas, spending six
months of the year at each.

"The peak of the winter has been
reached and the eight o'clockers need
have no further fear of the biting
mornings,," assures Prof. II. H. Curtiss
of the university observatory. "From
now on it will continue to become
warmer gradually and though a cold
spell will drop in occasionally it will
by no means be as serious as the one
just experienced."
"This is going to be about an aver-
age winter for Michigan. So far, the
amount of snowfall has been almos4
identically the same as that of average
past winters.
