The present award is in the form of a "G," mean- ing "gymnasium," and having no real significance. All women are united, however, in the opinion that the general impres- sion that they are asking for the reg- ulation "M," is an erroneous one, and all agree that an award of some kind ought to be granted to them by the athletic association at its board meet- ing this afternoon. A great number of the candidates who tried out last Thurs- day were found to be ineligible be- cause of deficient scholarship. * * * That university women are divided in their opinion as to whether the Var- sity "M" in any form whatsoever should be awarded to them for profi- ciency in athletics is evident from the different attitudes taken by many groups and individuals, although all agree that there has been no intention on the part of the women's league to ask the bestowal of the regulation "M" such as is granted to the men. According to definite statements made by a number of prominent uni- versity women last night, they, and the groups they represent, are thor- oughly opposed to the granting of any form of the "M," inasumch as wom- en's athletics are not intercollegiate, and ought not to be placed on a level with those of the men.
