--Dr. A. M. Barrett, professor of psy-
chiatry in the department of medicine,
has been appointed by Governor Fer-
ris to attend the annual convention
of the Alienists and Neurologists of
the United States to be held in Chi-
cago July 14 to 18.
-Dr. A. F. Shull of the zoology de-
partment, who has been engaged in
some individual research work on "The
inheritance of Quantitative Characters
in iRectifiers," will present some of the
results of hisinvestigations at a meet-
ing of the Zoological Journal club to
be held tonight.
-Mr. H. W. Emerson, '02, Ph.C., B.S.,
former instructor in the university of
Kansas, has been appointed to fill the
vacancy in the pharmacy department,
caused by the resignation of Dr. G. B..
Roth. Mr. Emerson will teach phar-
macology. Dr. Roth resigned to ac-
cept a position in the Government Hy-
gienic Laboratory, at Washington, D.
C.
-The Jeffersonian society will hold
its meeting tomorrow night in its room
in the law building at 7:000 o'clock.
--Prof. T. A. Bogle of the law depart-
ment, will meet the entire freshman
law class Tuesday afternoon, at 4:00
o'clock, to explain his course in Com-
mon Law Pleadings. Owing to Pro-
fessor Bogle's illness he has been un-
able to meet his classes this semester.
-The Webster society will hold its
weekly meeting in its rooms in the
law building this evening at 7:00
o'clock. The regular program with a
debate on "The Unemployed in the
United States," is scheduled for the
evening.
MEDIC STUDENT TO LECTURE
BEFORE COSMOPOLITAN CLUB
A public lecture will be given to
university students by Karm C. Ker-
well, '17M, this evening at 7:30 o'clock
in Newberry hall, on "Glimpse of In-
dia." The lecture is the first of a series
given under the auspices of the Cosmo-
politan club.,<I42
The object of these lectures is to
acquaint the native students with life
and customs in foreign lands. The
next one will be given by Prof, James
P. Bird, secretary of the engineering
department, on "Picturesque Brittany,"
a week from today at the same hour
and place.
MICHI(AN STUDENTS WILL
COMPETE IN ESSAY CONTEST
For the first time in a number of
years Michigan men will compete for
Hart,Schafner, and Marx prizes in eco-
nomics. The men who are writing es-
says for this contest are H. R. Marsh,
'15, R. D. Kilburn, '15, and M. W. Wat-
kins, '14. All these papers are the
outgrowth of others sbmittetd in con-
nection with seminary courses in eco-
nomics, and are being worked on un-
der the direction of faculty members
of the department, who are also will-
ing to criticise the work of any other
students who may want to try for the
prizes.
