Of the 100 next young- est set of officers 60 per cent are col- lege graduates. These figures seem to indicate a strong tendency of railroad management to select young men of college education for responsible po- sitions. This belief is strengthened by the order recently issued by the Santa Fe railroad, which requires that only graduates of engineering schools be employed in its civil engineering service.
