Gen- eralities are always ignorances or prejudices; products of sloth, narrow- ness or bias. Details are troublesome, but details are the real mountains. The expert will make few generalities; the man of the street, the hoi-polloi, the country store gossip, is full of them. His speech reeks with bitter denunciations, magnified praises, prejudices and snug convictions. Details are educative, convincing and weighty. They bespeak research, judgment and reason.
