Among the officials of the depart- ment it is believed that the increase in the number of withdrawals is partly due to the fact that under the new rules of the university it is possible to obtain a partial refund of fees for a long'er period than has formerly been the case.In previous years stu- dents have been induced to remain in college throughout at least a semester because of the fact that otherwise their fees would be totally lost. m Jr 9iF~ h6: uits and Overcoats " " . ir w $22.50 $18.75 $16.50 $15.00 $13.50 $11.25 CAMPUS IN BRIEF JEWE L RY Extensive Stock at Reasonable Prices Skilled and Trustworthy Watch Repairing OPTICAL SUPPLIES Michigan Pins, Fobs, Bars and Spoons J. Band Refuses Details of Petition Mr. S. J. Hoexter, faculty manager of the Varsity band, conferred Thurs- dey with Secretary Smith regarding a petition for funds which is to be submitted to the board of regents at their next meeting. No definite in- formation regarding the details of the petition were made public. The money raised at these two func- tions will be used, in financing the band trip to Cambridge next fall. Fresh Gym Classes to Learn Boxing Beginning with the second semester, all the regular gymnasium classes meeting in Waterman gym will be giv- en instruction in boxing. The calis- thenic exercises and apparatus work will of course be continued, but in ad- dition, the fundamentals of boxing are to be taught. It is hoped by those in charge, that, in this way, enough men will become interested in the sport to warrant the hiring of an instructor of boxing. The question of hiring such an instructor has been agitated before but each time the small number of men interested 1 has made this seem impracticable. -A combined sleigh-ride and dance will be given by the members of the Deutscher Verein in the first week of the new semester. The decision was made at a general meeting of the so- ciety last night. Irwin Hartung, '14, rendered several selections of reading in German.
