Main St. I START WORK ON UNION MINSTRELS Some material for the Christmas cel- ebration, to be held at the Union Wed- nesday night, December 18, has al- ready been received by the committee. The competition willbe open until Monday night at 6:00 o'clock for those who wish to submit minstrel scena- rios, jokes, or musical numbers. The committee wishes to receive as many scenarios as possible, and will select the best parts of each for the final production. Aspecial stage will be erected, and nearly 25 men will participate. The usual minstrel methods will be em- ployed, with prominent campus com- edians taking the parts of end men and interlocutor. Parodies on popular songs, and numerous melodies of a local significance will be used as well as available jokes. Men who have ap- peared in operas, and in comedy roles of other productions will become blackface artists. Two performances will be given, one probably beginning at 8:00 o'clock and the other after an intermission. Between the two performances a short program will be provided. Although the numbers have not been entirely arranged, it is probable that a sleight- of-hand act will be provided. Popular legerdemain will make up the act. The other act will probably be a rapid car- toon event, in which the artist will de- pict prominent campus characters with charcoal on a large chart. Other features will be provided in addition to the regular program, in the nature of lighted Christmas trees, and a distribution of Yule-tide re- freshments. No admission will be charged, and the management wishes to make the event serve as an opportunity for men to gather before breaking up for the holiday vacation. iII - IGHlT IDANCE COMM4ITTEE WILL D)RAFT RESOLUTIONS. Resolutions representing student sentiment regarding mid-night dances will be drafted at a committee meet- ing at the Union this afternoon at 5:00 o'clock. It is probable that recom- mendation to abolish all mid week dances will be made, but week ends will be allowed the present freedom. The committee consists of Robert Sturtevant, '14, representative from the literary department and Michi- gamua. J. Herbert Wilkins, '14, rep- resents Druids and Sphinx; Morris Lohman, '15M, medical department and Griffins; Frank Murphy, '14L, law department and Barristers; Alfred 0. The eastern section of the country is send- ing a greater quota of students than ever before. The prime reason for the comparatively great influx from the east is accounted for by the fact that the fees of the University of Mich- igan are lower than those of any east- ern institutiton of learning.
