Night l'Mitor---J. S. Switzer. THAT BAND. M ichigan is proud: of the bnd that play s at Conell today, but MIichig;an is p)rouder or theo genierous spirit that mrade thart-trip possible, Thena, we wonder, if thes(e "tag days" are not thoroughly worth whfile; worth while from thte standpoint of keeping alive the element of personal r(espon- sibility itt eachb one of us, andl worth while from the standpoint of demon- strating to the world the close, deep spirit that knits together our other- wise c:osmop~olitan body. We keenly.appreciate the lelasure of presenting to the world the kindly and substantial interest shown, by an alumnnus and former faculty member. Tihese evidences of loyalty mean everything to us. Loyalty is like de- miocracy, unless used constantly, it degeneorates into a mere theory. Sh alil we even then contemplate a -cheange? We subscribe to a "tag" not because we want to, send the band in- divitdually to Cornell, not because we want our team to win, but because of oitr love for MIichigatn, the intangible par ofMih~gnalmost the name it- MR. Mr. Gink would mwonopolize the first page, right huad colun for several successive issues. As we said, Mr. Gink loses his sense of proportion. Mr. Glink forgets that he represents but one of Michigan's many organi- zations, he forgets that we are a news- papier, he forgets that an announce- mnent is news only once in its life, he forgets that it is our duty and our privileg e to give the news, but not our right to re-serve or to attempt to overwhelm our readers with his ad- vertisements. fut Mr. Gink is even more sublime- ly ignorant. IlIe refuses us the csour- I INTERCOLLEGIATE j PHILADELPHIA, PENN., 'Nov. 7.- Philadelphia, the home of the world's champions, the developing place of our best tennis players, oarsmen, track athletes, etc., has noted the great work that Dartmouth has done against Hlarvard and Princeton the past five years and in their minds, tomorrow's struggle between Dartmouth and Pennsylvania has assumed the im- portance of a championship game. TPhis accounts for the' unprecedented demand for seats as Franklin field promises to be crowded to the gates when the two teams line up on Sat- urday= next. B=oth teams are keyed to concert pitch. For the first time this year Pennsylvania will go into the game full of the fighting spirit that has made her famous. and Dartmouth will find it most difficult to get away with the game. Yesterday was the last scrimmage prior to the game so that Saturday should see'the members of the Pennsylvania team eager= for, the fray and full of speed and (deter- mination. The play of the line has been quite satisfactory to the coaches this week so Pennsylvania is not afraid that Dartmouth's forwards will get the better of line play. This means that the plunging game of Whitney and Snow may not be so effective as they are planning for it is well known in football circles that Pennsylvania's system of secondary defense is one of the strongest used by any team in the con try. Pennsylvania's students feel that, the coming game will be the great event of the season in Philadelphia and -they will be there in full force. Special cheers and special singing led by jthe Pennsylvania band will be a feature of the afternoon. As Dart- mouth will also be well represented in the north stand, there will be a riot of color, flags, and cheering that should prove an inspiration to both teams.
