MICHIGAN HAS EXCEPTIONAL
PROSPECTS FOR GREAT TEAM.
Continued from page 1.)
ence, and the spectacle of these six
"M" men fighting for places is the
basis of the prophecy of a wonderful
line this fall.
At right endeLyons, of last year's
All-Fresh eleven has been used con-
sistently, and looks good. James, his
teammate, and Wells, together with
Tessin, of last year's varsity squad,
are also trying for the position.
Norton, Scott and Cochran, of last
year's freshmen, have all been putting
up a strong fight for guard or tackle
stations, and have had the preference
over the veterans in some of the early
scrimmages. McHale, Lichtner and
Millard, on the line, are also showing
ability. The former had considerable
varsity experience last year, and has
starred at recovering fumbles in the
scrimmages this fall.
While there is a wealth of veterans
for the line, there are only Hughitt
and Bushnell"left in the backfield, as
Craig has declared that he will not
be able to play football this season.
The star halfback has considerable
work to carry in order to graduate
next spring; and fears that he cannot
afford to participate in gridiron acivi-
ties.
"Tommy" Hughitt has had the call
at the quarterback job so far, and
has shown a world of speed in run-
ning the team, and in carrying the
ball. Bushnell also has been used at
quarter.
Quinn, Catlett, Mead, Benton, and
Bentley are the men Yost has been
using in the.hbackfield. Quinn and
Benton have been at full, and the
others at half. Diehl also has been
used behind the line, but the critics
look for him to make a bid for a for-
ward station.
Yesterday morning Yost made the
first cut, reducing the varsity squad
to twenty-nine candidates. The sec-
ond cut will be made Saturday.
The varsity squad includes the fol-
lowing:--
Captain Paterson, Lichtner, Trap-
hagen, Allmendinger, Cochran, Scott,
McHale, Morse, Quail, Raynsford,
Pontius, Musser, Millard, Torbet,
Hughitt, Galt, Bushnell , Bentley,
Mead, Diehl, Lyons, James, Watson,
Tessin, Catlett, Roehm, Bastian,
Quinn and Benton.
