Already the flagrant misstatements of facts has begun. The first commun- ication fails to hold water with, the facts, and'the facts are what we want in this discussion. udge for yourself the argument, the proof that is advanced, and the con- clusions. We feel that the article is mostly conclusion, but judge for your- self. As for actual misstatements, we note the following: The Conference does not rule with whom any particu- lar member shall play, except to say that no games shall be scheduled with a university formerly in the Confer- ence. There is no rule in the Confer- ence which sets a limit on the num- ber of football games that must be scheduled with other members of the Conference. how about the Big Five that he fa- vors in one place, after the suggestion made by Governor Osborne, and then makes the point that there are only two games that Michigan would care for-.even the pro-conference. We wonder how many of us agree with this? Further, are Michigan's baseball .re- lations as fine as relations with the western universities? Not if we are to judge by some of the stories that have been handed down to us. But why go further with this? Regarding thearticle from the Daily Illini, we will speak later. For the present accept it as a display of a per- sonal view-point, rather than &n ex- pression of Illinois. The Illinois Sen- ate was far more sportsmanlike and we have a communication from the editor of the Daily Maroon, which is a much better example. THE BIG- IDEA. For .the first time since the early "ays of the university the entire fac- ulty and student body wil gather to- gether in one great meeting. To the outside world this is of tremendous import for it shows that Michigan is a real university,-not merely an ag- gregation of departments, each with widely different aims. For us, however, Convocation is the expression of an even greater idea. We know of no better way by which those who are now first entering the university may be impressed with its intellectual and physicial largeness than by this great gathering under one roof. It will demonstrate to them the wonderful opportunities for self bet- terment which the university offers as well as impressing them with the re- sponsibilities and duties that are theirs as members of the University of Michigan.I Beginning today and extending into Miss iary Newkirk, '13, and Miss Isabel Hull, '12, have both received scholarships from Simmons College, I oston, and are working there this year. Miss Newkirk is engaging in secretarial work and Miss Hullin do- mestic science. Miss Edna Turner, president of the Womens' league 1911-12, has taken her Master's degree at Radcliffe, and is now teaching American history and, doing administrative work in the Lig- gett school, Detroit.
