lery on the second floor. Each of the
men thus hon~ored has contributed
largely both in time and money to the
erection of the edifice. The Alumni
Room will continue to bear that name.
Announcement was made that the
funds for the Tappan Tablet, which is
to be placed directly opposite that
in honor of Dr. James B. Angell, are
nearing the desired total, and that it
is planned to unveil the tablet next
year.
Harry E. Douglas, '98 P, of Ann Ar-
bor was elected to succeed Horatio N.
Chute, '72, as a member of the asso-
ciation's board of directors. The meet-
ing instructed President Lane to ap-
poin t a committee of three to discuss
and report. to the association on the
much agitated question of adopting
jan official button for the organization.
A resolution was passed recommend-
ing that local alumni associations be
urged to aid in securing subscriptions
for the Alumnus. The report of the
general secretary, W. B. Shaw, re-
viewing the association's work for
the past year wa~s read and will appear
in full in the July issue of The Alum-
nus.

With today the festivities finish and
another class will have been graduat-
ed into a. passive world. To those
about to make their exit from several
years habitation within college pre-
cincts the step may seem abrupt. Wits
and jesters have made much sport of
the late collegian.
The world however is not quite so
cold as these latter would have us
believe. Whatever may be the sense
of Ik Marvel's lines to the effect "it

is astonishing with what degree of
equanimity the world receives this in-
undation of talent, how quickly the
Peels and Burkes among college sen-
iors disappear in after life," they do
,not detract from the worth of a liberal
education. At most, they are signifi-
cant of the fact, that in this instance,
the world likes to make up its own
opinion regarding that value.
As a matter of fact there never has
been a time when college trained men
are more welcome than at present.
Such have been the accomplishments
of the graduates who have gone forth
in the past that adverse criticism has
been silenced. Statistics show that
college trained men and women occu-
py positions of public trust and honor,
altogether out of proportion to their
numbers.
Our own alumni returning are living
examples of- the. truth of this state-
ment.
We may better say that after today
another class will be graduated into
a recipient world awaiting only to be
shown. Seniors, make good.

The '07 engineers gave the lie to
those who would malign the machin-
ists as a bunch of grimy boilermak-
ers. They came back with a vim and
delivered the goods by the cartload.
One of their number tired of pound-
ing rivets fitted out his class with au-
tos. Not mere touring cars or brcugh-
ams or any such were these, rather
were they great gray trucks in the
nature of moving vans, equipped with
the latest appliances. Keep it quiet
they say that these trucks were not
water wagons.
