(Continued from page 1.) An
All Want Button.
The association, in accordance with
popular opinion, offered the Union the H
alumni and undergraduate button un-
der the agreement that it be given to
Union members and sold to non-mem-
ber seniors at a nominal cost. The $
Alumni association immediately laid
claim to the privilege of issuing the
alumni button and was upheld by the
Union authorities. The Union wishes
the undergraduate button but does not
care to have charge of the alumni but- -
ton chiefly because of its sympathy
with the contentions of the alumni
organization.
The Athletic association, if it fol-
lows the recommendations of the com-
mittee that has been appointed from
its board to investigate the matter,
will refuse the Union the undergradu-
ate button, unless it agrees to the plan 8
of caring for the alumni also. The
association committee claims that the
Alumni association intends to force
the seniors to join the alumni organ-
ization by subscribing to the Alumnus
before they can obtain the button. In
case the seniors will not join the, as-
sociation, the price of the button will
be increased accordingly.
Plan for Union Insignia.
On the other hand, the Alumni asso-
ciciation, which has been issuing an
unofficial button for a few years, is
planning to have the button ratified
by the advisory committee of the asso-
ciation, and to continue the issuing of
the button to its members. The Union
is also laying plans for the issuing of
an undergraduate button to be worn Does
by its members, despite any action on role.
the part of the Athletic association
board. The Union authorities justify
their stand on the ground that the as-
sociation has only a prior claim to the
button; that since it has come to have
no meaning to members of the Athlet-
ic association, the button naturally
falls into the hands of the organiza-
tion which embraces all campus in-
terests.
It is likely that the Regents may be Do
called upon to decide the matter in the mot
end, in case the athletic board votes
to continue issuing the insignia. We
