SUFFRAGIST AR(IJES FOR
ADOPTION OF EQUAL BALLOT
"When man invented machinery he
took the verious industries out of the
home and placed them in the factory.
This change created a class of idle
females at the top of the social ladder
Student to be Playground Supervisor.
Russell Baer, '14 law, will be one

This was one of the significant
points which Mrs. Swinburn-Hale
made in her lecture on "Women's Suf-
rage" in high school hall last evening.
"Such a condition of society acts
with detriment to both the women in
the upper and lower classes, and can
at least be alleviated by granting uni-
versal suffrage. This has been dem-
onstrated to be true in both Austral-
ia and New Zealand."
MICHIGAN UNIOT DANCES
PROVE FINANCIAL SUCCESS
Practically one hundred dollars was
cleared by the Michigan Union dance
committee on the series of three par-
ties that were given in Barbour gym-
nasium during the year. The money
has been placed at the disposal of the,
social committee to be used for the
Sunday afternoon entertainments.
So far this year $165.00 has been
spent by the social committee in en-
tertaining Union members on Sunday
afternoons.

Often college graduates find it im-
possible to secure just the positions
they especially desire because they
have not had any practical training in
the particular 'business in which they
wish to engage. Usually they are ad-
vised by those to whom they apply
that as private secretaries to some of
the head men in the business they
could quickly gain just the training
that would make them unusually valu-
able men in that line-and as secre-
taries they would be earning a good
salary while fitting themselves for the
more important positions which they
especially desire but which without
the training would never be open to
them.
On Monday of this week we had en-
roll for our course a man who has a

master's degree from the U. of M. He
finds it absolutely necessary to learn
shorthand before he can secure the
position he is especially anxious to ob-
tain. Had he taken our course while
in college he would have saved sever-
Can al months' time and several hundreds
of dollars in salary which he might
have earned instead of spending the
time now in taking our course. Simi-
lar cases are not infrequent. Better
read the announcement of the May
class in Shorthand in this issue of the
Daily and then enroll in this class.
