The last Faculty concert of the year will be held, in University Hall at 8 o'clock tonight. The custom which was followed for a good many years, but which has been discontinued for the past few seasons, will again be followed out,-namely, the concert, will take the form of an Organ Reci- tal on the Columbian Organ. Earl V. Moore of the University School of Mu- sic will give the concert. While this concert will be one of the regular faculty concert series, it has been de- cided to make it complimentary to the entire public. "The Love Tales of Hoffmann" Coming to the Whitney theater Sat- urday, May 4, is "The Love Tales of Hoffmann," which was the last flower of Offenbach, that eccentric genius who creat ed opera bouffe and delighted and scandalized the theater-going public of the nineteenth century. Offenbach considered it his greatest work, and the world is apparently arriving at the same conclusion. It is described as a phantastic opera and it is difficult to imagine a better name for this de- lightful concoction. It is not travesy, though both the score and libretto abound in travesty. Comedy it is not, though the comedy features are plentiful. It is by no means a romantic 'musi drama yet its foundation is in ro- mance. It is far from being grand opera yet it is tragic to ,the core, and much of its music is powerful. The opera is altogether a mixture of most of the elements that go to make up mundane existence, the whole being blended by the brain of a genius into a bitter satire. In addition to the ,evening perform- ance of "The Love Tales of Hoffmann" Balfe's "Bohemian Girl" will be given at the matinee. Majestic Theater. The chief attraction at the Majestic theater tonight will be the Five Musi- cal Lassies in an elaborate scenic mu- sical offering that is away from the regulation act of this kind. These girls appear In the characters of Scotch lassies and the scene represents a typ- ical Highland view, The girls play on reed, brass and string Instruments, not forgetting the regulation bagpipes. Lawrence Johnson a talented ventrilo- quist, the Aerial Sherwood's in a sen- sational exhibition of gymnastic work, and star vaudeville turns will make up the new show tonight. A Correction. John Pyle, '12 L, will publish a sou- venir program of the inter-class con- tests, instead of John H. Payne, '12 L, as was announced erroneously in yes- terday's issue, Go to Major and Co. for boat paints. 145-50 Musical Instrument Repairing, work guaranteed, at Schaeberle & Sons Mu- sic House, 110 S.
