Night Editor-Loren Robinson. to conduct the state interscholastic meet, proceeded to actually investigate conditions. He was surprised to find that many positive statements, which had been circulated concerning us, were absolutely false. The result points out two lessons. First, it is safe to say that statements based on "well known facts" or "ir- refutable statistics" are usually lies. Secondly, Mr. Warner's extraordinary method of arriving at the truth might well be followed by certain others who profess interest in our university. sawn Calk The manner in which the Memorial Shaft in the center of the campus lost its top has just come to light through, the conversation of two freshmen. While walking across the campus, one of them volunteered the- information, that a number of years ago some soph- omores, while celebrating the victory of a class rush, discharged the can- non. This resulted in the loss of a portion of the shaft. Several gray-capped strangers, hands thrust unconcerned-like in trousers' pockets, and with preponder- ous prep school letters on breast, are in our midst. Mere Michigan "M"s are thrown quite into the shade by the flaming "P"s and "B"s of such il- lustrious athletic centers as Podunkus and Brigg's Crossing. Faculty to Give Students Dinner. The annual banquet given by the Homeopathic faculty to the alumni and students of that department will be held at the Michigan Union club house, on Friday evening, October 27, at 7:30 o'clock. William St.I Muckraking. It is a little surprising, this clap- trap that is indulged in by various critics of colleges and college affairs. Not that colleges are not open to criti- cism on legitimate grounds such as administration, curriculum, extra-ac- ademic organizations and the like. But when the indictment is based on the intangible ground of student morality and concerns conditions with which the complainant is totally ignorant, the limit of muckraking is reached. We are becoming accustomed to garrulous outbursts from would- be-critics. Some are considerate enough to come to Ann Arbor and stroll through the campus before charging "flagrant immorality." The majority find, in;their several imagi- nations, sufficiently startling "facts" to expose. Principal W. W.
